Over the past decades, CWIC has tried to create a space
within the university where creative feminist work might
find a home. The effort to create this space, not
surprisingly, has gone through its “fits and spurts” as
issues of leadership, governance questions and resource
limitations have informed its growth and outreach.
Because CWIC is intimately linked to the Department of
Women’s Studies which was also being established over
the same period of time, fiscal and staff support was
very important—and we were often hard-pressed to keep
going. We are, however, grateful to several Deans of the
College of Humanities and Social Sciences who offered us
funding for various projects. Following the spirit of
feminist attention to “process,” we share these
efforts—and accomplishments—in the links that are
appended.
We are hopeful that these
efforts have layered themselves into a foundation for
concrete and focused work in the future. CWIC is ready
to take off! We believe that with the flourishing of the Department of
Women’s Studies, the
time is ripe to create new alliances, open out into the
community, and support feminist faculty across campus
through various initiatives. Please join us!
