The purpose of the Queer Pedagogies Project (QPP) is to provide an
interdisciplinary forum for feminist scholars to discuss the impact of queer
studies on their teaching and research, and to share resources, strategies,
syllabi, and other curricular materials related to queer and transgender
studies.
In recognition of the significant impact and rapid growth of queer
studies within women’s and gender studies, QPP’s current efforts include
seminars and workshops aimed at reviewing recent developments in the field
(for faculty not working directly in queer studies) and sharing best practices
for teaching LGBT survey courses and integrating sexuality studies into gender
studies curricula. Jane Ward (WMST), Co-Director of QPP, was invited to give
the first of these seminars for the Department of Women’s Studies at the
University of New Orleans in March 2009. Feedback from faculty was UNO was
extremely positive.
Currently, plans are underway for QPP, in conjunction with the Southern
California Womens, Genders, and Sexualities Studies Consortium (WGSSC) and
UCR’s LGBIT Studies, to host a Queer Pedagogies retreat/workshop at UCR.
Tammy Ho (WMST), Co-Director of QPP, has begun laying the groundwork for
the event, which is expected to gather together feminist and queer faculty and
programs in Southern California, including USC, UCLA, UCI, UCR, CSULA, CSU
Fullerton, CSU Long Beach, CSU Dominguez Hills, the Claremont Colleges and
Claremont Graduate University.
